History research has it - that the Emperors wore purple when they came back from a successful battle and/or for state occasions.....

Just some trivia....Togas are usually wrapped around the body several times, using approximately 7-9 metres of fabric.  Some would have you believe Togas are simple to make and wear.  In Old Roman times it was necessary to have 2 servants (who knew what they were doing) to dress you properly...later on, tunics and drapes became popular. Roman costuming is ugly and looks simple to make.  What takes the time is to get it to look half decent !!!!!
